Sagewell started as a shared notes doc between two friends
comparing skincare ingredient lists. Today it's a journal trusted by
thousands who'd rather understand their routine than guess at it.
How It Started
A running argument that became a journal.
It began in 2019 as a friendly disagreement: one of us an esthetician frustrated by trends that outpaced the evidence, the other a writer who wanted her skincare shelf to make sense. Comparing ingredient lists over coffee became a shared spreadsheet, then a newsletter, then Sagewell.
Today, a small team of writers, a licensed dermatology advisor, and a herbalist keep the standard the same as it was on day one — if we can't explain why something works, we don't recommend it.
